Brant Point is less of a beach and more of an experience. The tiny lighthouse - Nantucket's most photographed landmark - marks the entrance to the harbor. It's where visitors toss pennies for luck and wave goodbye to the island.
The Lighthouse
At just 26 feet tall, Brant Point Lighthouse is one of the smallest lighthouses in America, but it's arguably the most beloved. The current structure is the 10th lighthouse to stand here since 1746, making it the site of America's second-oldest lighthouse station.
The lighthouse is beautifully decorated for Christmas Stroll in December and is adorned with American flags in summer. It's an essential photo stop and the perfect background for that Nantucket Instagram shot.
The Beach
The small beach area at Brant Point is more for walking and watching than for swimming. The water is calm and shallow, suitable for wading, but the real attraction is the view.
Sit on the jetty rocks and watch ferries come and go - it's a beloved Nantucket ritual. The tradition is to wave at arriving and departing boats, and passengers wave back. It's surprisingly moving.
