Porter Tidewater

So there I was, twelve years ago, fresh off the ferry with a guitar case and a plan to spend one summer bartending at The Club Car. Just long enough to pay off my amp, then back to Brooklyn for my "big break." The big break never came. Something better did.

I'm Porter Tidewater, and I've spent the last decade learning everything about what makes this island drink. The old-timers taught me the classics. The wine folks at Greydon House schooled me on terroir. And Randy Hudson at Cisco showed me what happens when you make spirits with actual soul. Now I make cocktails with stories behind every pour. You're going to think I'm making some of these up. I'm not. Mostly.

The Cisco Connection

Nantucket's three-in-one beverage empire

Triple Eight Distillery

  • Triple Eight Vodka — The smoothest base you'll find. Eight times distilled.
  • Triple Eight Gin — Botanical and bright. Perfect for island G&Ts.
  • Notch Single Malt Whisky — Aged in Cisco beer barrels. Absolutely unique.
  • Triple Eight Bourbon — Their take on Kentucky, Nantucket style.

Cisco Brewers

  • Whale's Tale Pale Ale — The flagship. Worth every sip.
  • Grey Lady — Belgian-style wit. Summer in a glass.
  • Sankaty Light — Session beer that goes all day.
  • Indie Pale Ale — Hoppy and bold. IPA lovers, this one's for you.

Nantucket Vineyard

  • Grey Lady — Their signature white blend. Cocktail-friendly.
  • Sea Blush — Rosé that begs to be turned into frosé.
  • Merlot — Smooth enough for sangria. Serious enough for dinner.

Stocking a Rental Kitchen Bar

  • Hit Cisco first: One stop for vodka, gin, whiskey, beer, and wine. Free tastings, free shuttle from town.
  • Don't skip the liquor store: Hatch's Package Store on Main Street has mixers, bitters, and everything Cisco doesn't make.
  • Ice is precious: Rental freezers make terrible ice. Buy bags at Stop & Shop and keep them frozen.
  • Citrus matters: Fresh lemons and limes from Bartlett's are miles better than grocery store options.
  • Simple syrup is easy: Equal parts sugar and water, heated until dissolved. Keeps for weeks. No excuse not to make it.
  • Glassware is optional: Red solo cups work. Mason jars work. Even coffee mugs work. The drink is what matters.
