♻️ The Take-It-or-Leave-It (TIOLI)

The dump's best-kept secret! This free swap area is like a treasure hunt:

Find for free:
  • Beach chairs & coolers
  • Books & magazines
  • Kitchen gadgets
  • Sports equipment
Leave behind:
  • Gently used items
  • Working furniture
  • Toys & games
  • Household goods

At the end of your stay, leave items for the next visitor instead of throwing them away. Items must be clean and usable—no junk.

Rental Guest Checklist

First time dealing with trash at a vacation rental? Here's your step-by-step:

1
Check your rental agreement

Some properties include trash pickup. Others require you to bring it yourself.

2
Buy clear bags early

Stop & Shop, Marine Home Center, or convenience stores. Don't wait until checkout day.

3
Go on a weekday if possible

Weekend hours are limited (8am–noon only). Weekday afternoons are usually quieter.

4
Cover your load

Keep bags inside your vehicle or use a tarp. Fines for debris that blows out.

5
Follow the signs at the dump

Personal vehicles use the Citizen Drop-Off (CDO) area. Staff will direct you.

Checking Out on a Weekend?

The dump closes at noon on weekends. Either go Saturday morning before checkout, or take your last bag of trash with you when you leave for the ferry—there are public trash bins near the terminal (but they're small, so keep it reasonable).

Hazardous Waste

Paint, solvents, pool chemicals, automotive fluids, and propane tanks can't go in regular trash. The town hosts six free collection events per year.

Check the town website for upcoming dates, or call 508-228-7244.
